YM’S Caledonian League side were involved in an extraordinary cup tie in which there was never a dull moment particularly in an eventful opening, with every emotion being tested to the limit as the game unfolded. Cammy McCulloch’s forceful run towards goal was brought to an end by an uncompromising tackle on the edge of the area. Undeterred, Cammy picked himself up, and drove the awarded free kick past the wall into the net giving YM an early lead. A few minutes later YM keeper Fraser Campbell was adjudged to have brought down Thistle striker Drummond in their next attack but his penalty struck the upright giving YM a big let off . Mikey Carroll and Craig Tocher combined to set up full back Ryan Kelly who burst through two tackles to score YM’S second goal in the 15 th minute. Garrowhill scored with a super 20 yard shot from midfielder Coulter flying into the YM net one minute later and this goal galvanised the home side as they applied plenty pressure on YM and were denied twice by offside decisions. The second half was minutes old when Thistle striker Drummond was again stopped in his tracks by keeper Fraser Campbell but the referee indicated it to have been illegal just outside the area so he dismissed the keeper. Striker Mikey Carroll was sacrificed to allow sub keeper Paul Teirnan on and he was to play an excellent part in defying the hosts as they increased the tempo but YM’S defenders led by captain Liam Sloan were tenacious in their defensive duties and remained resolute. Lone striker Craig Tocher’s pace caused the home team problems as the game wore on and he was brought down on one of his forays. Jordan Fletcher’s free kick found Tocher in the box but his shot was stopped by the keeper but livewire Cammy McCulloch followed up to net the rebound sparking great celebrations from his team-mates. YM’S confidence was restored again and when Craig Tocher spun away from defenders to latch on to David Cameron’s through ball and score YM’S fourth goal it relieved YM of all the pressure and they added a fifth goal near the end when David Cameron scored with a composed finish having been put through by Tocher.
