YM lost their first league match in 15 months with a below par performance at a rain sodden Lorretto on Wednesday evening. Jordan Calder’s powerful headed clearance set Connor McCann on his way to outstrip the full back and round the keeper to give YM a second minute lead.
St.Mungo equalised soon after. First Cammy McCulloch cleared off the line but seconds later another shot at goal deflected off a body to end in the net squaring the match. YM restored their lead after a good run by James Cameron who laid the ball off for David Kneale to smash home but one minute later Mungo were level as once again YM were slip shod in trying to clear their lines. The remainder of the game saw both sides have spells of superiority but no goals till an eventfull last few minutes. It looked like the match would finish level till YM had a big shout for a late penalty but the referee awarded free kick on the line and sent off the Mungo defender. YM’s free kick came to nothing and Mungo scored a late winner when a long ball eluded the YM defence allowing their forward through to score the winner and end a disappointing 90 minutes for YM who did not deserve to lose but have now to take this reverse on the chin and bounce back to winning ways on Saturday against tough opponents Milngavie Wanderers.
