YM started their League Cup campaign with internationalist Kyle Lafferty, who has been putting YM through a rigorous pre season programme, watching on and he must have been impressed with their pace and movement particularly in a dominant first forty five minutes.
Stenhousemuir were under the cosh from the start and only determined defending, inspired goalkeeping by Josh Inglis and some poor finishing kept the score sheet blank till just before the break when Cammy McCulloch slipped a good thro ball to David Cameron who ran from midfield to beat the offside trap and finish with a cheeky lob over the advancing keeper giving YM an interval lead.
Early in the second half Cammy McCulloch sent a glorious 40 yard crossfield pass into the path of James Cameron who raced in on goal before squaring the ball for full back Ryan Kelly to score doubling YM’S lead. Stenhousemuir suddenly pulled a goal back with a superb 30 yard strike from Steven Jackson giving them a lifeline back into the match and then YM keeper Fraser Campbell was at full stretch to make an outstanding save preventing an equaliser . Last season’s top scorer Connor McCann had the final say when he ran on to a thro ball from Jordan Fletcher and finished with aplomb from 18 yards to secure victory.
