Eight was great for table-topping East Kilbride YM as they thumped Rothesay Brandane to maintain their 100 per cent record in the Caledonian League.

Not only did they win 8-1 on the Isle of Bute, their victory made it eight league wins on the bounce after another dominant display, which included a Michael Carroll hat-trick.

The first goal of the game came from YM captain Liam Sloan when he was the first to react to a rebound from Cameron McCulloch’s free kick. The ball hit the upright and Liam Sloan pounced to fire home from close range.

Moments later YM doubled their advantage when Michael Carroll dispossessed the Rothesay defender at the corner flag and cut the ball back for David Cameron to side foot his shot high into the goal.

It was all YM by this time and a couple of minutes later David Cameron got in on the act again when his cross-cum-shot was toe-poked into the net by the outstretched foot of a Rothesay defender. Despite significant pressure the home side defended valiantly to keep the scoreline 0-3 at half time.

But YM showed no signs of letting up and two minutes into the second half Michael Carroll burst into the box and fired an unstoppable left foot shot into the bottom right hand corner to pile on the misery for Rothesay.

Connor McCann found the net in 55 minutes when he collected the ball on the right hand flank and cut in before shooting from 19 yards to make it 5-0 to the visitors.

Michael Carroll got his second in 63 minutes when he beat two players before slipping the ball beyond the diving Rothesay keeper.

Rothesay were still dangerous on the break and got their just rewards for still trying to play football when a cross was headed home by their striker.

The goal of the game came in 79 minutes when Carroll secured his hat-trick. A Craig Fry cross from the right wing found Michel Carroll surrounded by three defenders and he somehow managed to produce an overhead kick, which saw the ball fly into the top left hand corner of the goal.

That still wasn’t enough for YM and late on Jordan Fletcher’s cross found John Griffin at the back post, his powerful downward header completing a stunning 8-1 win.

The victory puts YM three points clear of Dunblane at the top of Division 1B, with a game in hand. During their run, YM have scored 67 goals with only three in return.
