East Kilbride YM are on the cusp of lifting the Caledonian League 1B title after a thumping 5-0 win over Dunblane.

The champions-elect, who wrapped up promotion in February, need just one more victory after taking their season’s goal tally to an impressive 150.

They host Rothesay Brandane tomorrow at Hamilton Palace, kick-off 3pm, and a win will see them crowned champions - all without dropping a point from 15 games played.

In their victory over Dunblane, Cameron McCulloch grazed the Dunblane upright early on with a 25-yard shot and two minutes later he set up YM’s opener with a low cross into the box that deflected off a defender into the net.

Buoyed by this early success, YM pressed for a second goal but Dunblane defended resolutely with keeper Jackson in inspired form to ensure half-time arrived with YM just a goal to the good.

In the second period YM kept up the offensive with Cameron McCulloch unlucky to see another effort rebound off the upright, then James Cameron did likewise.

But the pressure paid off as YM’s second goal of the game finally arrived when David Cameron found the net with a powerful shot from inside the area.

Dunblane’s resistance was now broken and McCulloch added a third when he waltzed through the defence to score a fine solo effort.

Connor McCann was pulled down in the box and scored from the resultant spot kick to make it 4-0.

And Anthony Penman rounded off the scoring for the hosts, firing a terrific 20-yard strike into the corner of the net.
